In 2019, Dr. Nwankwor led a pioneering team from Nemours Children's Hospital and Cooper University Hospital to establish Nigeria's first organized Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu. This was a landmark achievement in improving pediatric critical care capacity in Nigeria, providing life-saving infrastructure for the most vulnerable patients — critically ill and injured children.
The project brought together medical expertise, equipment, and training protocols from leading U.S. children's hospitals to create a sustainable, locally-staffed critical care unit.
Continuing his philanthropic efforts, in 2025 Dr. Nwankwor donated essential medical equipment and supplies to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Awka, Anambra State, further enhancing the facility's capacity to care for children.

Through this fellowship, he has served as a Visiting Scholar at the Department of Pediatrics, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu — strengthening international medical collaborations and training the next generation of Nigerian physicians.
